MIC Series Cameras for the Twin Sails Bridge

Six cameras have been installed on the newly constructed Twin Sails Bridge in the town of Poole on the south coast of England. The cameras help to monitor all traffic and pedestrians making the crossing as well as vessels passing beneath the bridge.

The Twin Sales Bridge features two triangular lifting leaves which, when raised, form the iconic shape of a yacht’s sails and thus reflect the maritime history of the coastal town. It forms part of a landmark regeneration project for the Borough of Poole, providing access to a large regeneration site in the southwest as well as a much-needed additional harbor crossing to ease traffic congestion around the town.

As the Borough of Poole’s resident video surveillance contractor, Quadrant Security Group (QSG) was the first choice to supply and install the video equipment for the new bridge, and so it specified six stainless steel MIC series cameras.
The stainless steel MIC series is an extremely reliable and high quality ruggedized PTZ camera that has been precision engineered to meet exacting standards. Rated to an industry leading IP68 liquid protection, its grade 316L stainless steel housing has enhanced corrosion-resistant properties that offer protection in the harshest of environments, including marine applications such as the Twin Sails Bridge where the high salt content in the air can dramatically reduce the lifespan of traditional camera units.

During working hours all six cameras transmit images back to the quayside control room, from where the bridge is operated, and out of hours, the CCTV footage is sent to the Civic Center, which shares responsibility for bridge control. Two of the cameras are positioned to monitor vessels passing underneath the bridge; one views vessels coming into the Poole basin, and one watches those going back out to sea. The other four cameras are positioned on top of high level bridge totems and survey the traffic and pedestrians using the bridge, serving as a safety precaution as it is raised and lowered.

The MIC series uses brushless motor technology to enable quiet yet reliable operation, with full 360-degree continuous rotation pan and 270-degree tilt control for exceptional viewing capability. Small increment pan/tilt speeds give the user precise control, which is fundamental for tracking subjects when fully zoomed in. Furthermore, it is compatible with virtually any control equipment and can seamlessly integrate with the vast majority of security systems.

Quadrant Security Group is one of the UK’s fastest growing independent security systems providers, delivering total security and surveillance solutions from consultancy to systems design, installation and support.

New DVR 670

We've introduced the latest member of the Digital Video Recorder 600 Series—the DVR 670, a complete video management solution for up to 16 cameras in a single compact unit. The DVR 670 complements this highly successful series by offering real-time recording in 4CIF resolution simultaneously on all channels.

Very simple to install and operate, the DVR 670 requires no special training and a minimum of maintenance. Once the unit is connected, you only need to enter the language, date, and time for the system to begin recording automatically. The DVR 670 is designed to keep working continuously and reliably, thus further reducing operating costs. Live viewing is possible in multiple display aspect ratios, from smartphones right up to wide screen, high resolution monitors.

The system can be managed locally using a Bosch IntuiKey keyboard, mouse, infrared remote control or directly via the front panel. Since all models in the 600 Series support keyboard loopthrough, up to 16 of these recorders can be operated from a single IntuiKey keyboard.

The DVR 670 also offers a number of remote management options, allowing you to control the video and recording anywhere via LAN, WAN or the Internet. These include the bundled Bosch Control Center software, which enables the centralized configuration, viewing and control of multiple 600 Series recorders. In addition, a zero-install web client is available, as well as the new Bosch DVR Viewer mobile app for live viewing and PTZ control on iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Available with an optional integrated DVD writer and in a wide range of storage capacities, the new Bosch DVR 670 makes use of highly efficient H.264 compression to significantly lower both bandwidth and storage requirements. This is achieved without compromising image quality.

Alongside event capture by triggering inputs or motion detection, the DVR 670 now adds a 10-second video clip to automatic e-mail notification. Operators will also appreciate such time-saving features as Smart Search, which helps to locate key events in recorded video by looking for changes in a selected area. Critical recordings are safeguarded by overwrite protection, while all video is digitally watermarked to ensure recording credibility. Finally, an archive player with image authentication allows scenes to be viewed on any PC, without having to install additional software.

This affordable, compact and flexible video management solution is ideal for a variety of small to medium-sized applications, including schools, shops, banks or hotels, as well as larger enterprises with several locations.

Meet our Newest Trainer

Chuck Salamone joined our customer training department in April. He spent the first eight years of his career at Bosch in technical support for our intrusion products. Due to his years in technical support, Chuck brings an extensive knowledge of Bosch intrusion products, along with real world experience, to his position. He has an AS in Business Administration and a BS in Business Management and Economics.

Favorite Customer Story: I remember teaching a GV4 Control Panel update class recently. I had a gentleman in my class that had been in the security industry and at the same company for 41 years! I remember feeling quite intimidated when he told me, since I haven’t even been on the planet that long. There was a point in the class where I taught the “Bosch Binary” method of addressing POPITs. To my astonishment, that same technician stood up in the middle of class and sincerely thanked me for teaching him something he never knew all the years he had been working with addressable POPIT modules. That was the best comment I have ever received and is something I am very proud of to this day.

Favorite Bosch Product: The Professional Series Motion Detectors. The innovation on these detectors blows me away!

Most rewarding aspect of job: Getting to know our customers face-to-face. And, I an able to contribute in making Bosch training the absolute best in the industry.

Tip for customers: You can find answers to many of our frequently asked questions by checking out our extensive Knowledgebase located on our technical support website.

Fun facts: I grew up around water and have had my boating certificate since I was 12-years-old. I like to do my own home improvements, and I enjoy sushi and spicy foods.

Family: Wife, Daughter, and two dogs: Codey and Pepper

Licensing Bosch Video Products

Since license authorizations for our video products are provided via email, you should copy the number into a text file and place it on a flash drive. Depending upon the item being licensed, the next step will vary slightly but is essentially the same function. If it is software (BVMS or BRS, for example), then insert the flash drive onto that computer. (For encoders you can use their web interface or Configuration Manager.) Copy the Installation code (or computer signature) into the text file previously mentioned.

Go to the Internet and navigate to our licensing server at:; and after opening the page, click on the "Create Account" link. (This is highly recommended to help you manage all of your activations.) Next you will click on the link "Click here to activate new licenses." When the next page opens, enter your authorization number. The server will confirm what is contained in the license and offer you several data fields for entry. You will enter your installation code (or equivalent) and a site description. After submitting, the server will return your license activation key. Copy that activation key into the text file, return to the computer where you are licensing, and paste the key in.

That's all there is to it!
